Cosmetic peels will enhance your appearance and self-confidence. Chemical peels may also remove pre-cancerous skin growths, soften acne facial scars, and even control acne.
Creating a Purposeful "Skin Injury"
When applying a chemical solution designed to break down and lift away dead skin cells, a mild injury occurs to the skin. This "controlled" injury then triggers the inner healing response of the body. This natural "healing" process results in the production of new collagen and restoration of damaged skin cells.
Chemical peels are most commonly performed using alpha hydroxyacids. These are naturally occurring acids found in fruits and other foods. Alpha hydroxyacids have proven to be effective in treating dry skin, acne, liver or sun spots, diminishing fine facial wrinkles, decreasing pore size, and improving skin texture.
Light peels are usually performed in a series of six to eight peels, each peel two to four weeks apart. This type of peel leaves the skin with a pink glow that only lasts for a day or so.
Dr. Sedgh uses the NeoStrata Skin Rejuvenation System. This is a glycolic acid peel system that can only be performed as an in-office procedure by a trained professional. It provides controlled and predictable removal of surface skin cells, stimulating skin renewal to improve the appearance of the skin.
The procedure is fast and convenient, taking only about fifteen minutes. And with virtually no recovery time, you can be back to your normal routine the same day. There is no significant pain or discomfort or need for anesthesia.
These in-office NeoStrata glycolic acid peels, in conjunction with a home care regimen of NeoStrata® skin care products, can be used to improve the appearance of the following skin imperfections.
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Skin roughness and dullness
- Pigmentation irregularities
- Wrinkles around the eyes
- Comedones and blackheads
- Mild to moderate acne
- Superficial acne scarring
- Actinic keratoses
- Benign lentigines
Peel Customization*
NeoStrata Glycolic Peels are 100% free glycolic acid to maximize bioavailability, resulting in an effective, predictable peel. Many competitive peel products are either pH adjusted, buffered or partially neutralized reducing their effectiveness and predictability. The NeoStrata Peel System allows Dr. Sedgh to design a treatment program around your skin care needs and tolerance.
Glycolic Acid Skin Renewal Peel*
Offers the flexibility of four concentrations (20%, 35%, 50%, 70%). The various concentrations are predictable and are able to be combined with other cosmetic procedures, such as microdermabrasion and non-ablative laser treatments. It is recommended that physicians start patients with the 20% peel and increase strength after patient shows tolerance to the lower concentration.
High Potency Peel – Physician Use Only*
Clinical-only peel for in-office use by trained physicians in the treatment of hyperkeratosis and use in other skin conditions including photoaging, pigmentation irregularities and superficial scarring. The NeoStrata High Potency Peel is designed for use on patients who have already demonstrated tolerance to the 70% glycolic acid Skin Renewal Peel and require a greater clinical effect.
This "next generation" alpha hydroxyacid peel offers strength beyond the NeoStrata® 70% Glycolic Acid Skin Renewal Peel. It contains 70% glycolic acid PLUS the adjuvant peeling agents, acetic acid, pyruvic acid and ethyl pyruvate, in a vehicle that helps promote uniform penetration.
- Citriate® SRS Clarifying Peel Booster contains citric acid and mandelic acid with arginine for oily, blemish-prone skin with superficial scarring.
- Citriate® SRS Antioxidant Peel Booster contains citric acid with arginine for environmentally damaged skin with fine lines and wrinkles.
- Citriate® SRS Brightening Peel Booster contains citric acid with kojic acid, arbutin and arginine for pigmentation irregularities and uneven skin tone.
How Your In-Office Procedure Is Performed
A special pre-procedure cleanser is used to balance pH of the skin and remove any sebum and cellular debris from the skin surface. Preparation is a vital part of successful and even results.
Your custom selected peel booster is applied two minutes prior
Your selected peel solution is applied and carefully timed and observed. You may feel some level of thermal reaction while the peel is working to loosen and dissolve the bonds between the "old" skin and the new skin beneath.
A neutralizing solution is used to rapidly terminate the glycolic acid peel action. A foaming on the skin surface will indicate the presence of acid. Once the foaming stops, the neutralization process is completed.
Immediately after the neutralization process, a restorative emollient is applied. This special nutricream is specifically formulated with nutritional ingredients and a buffered emollient to protect the skin and to favor optimum skin repair and renewal following glycolic acid peels.
Your peel is complete. Depending on the strength level, you may have noticeable skin sloughing over the next several days.
Following sloughing (peeling) your skin will look healthy, vital and renewed with a smooth texture and youthful glow. Chemical peels have been in use for decades and are still a mainstay in cosmetic skin correction and improvement.
Jessner Peels*
Dr. Sedgh also offer patients the Jessner's Peel, used around the world for over 50 years and considered the classic combination formulation. This peel helps clear, fade and prevent acne lesions, ingrown hairs and associated post inflammatory hyperpigmentation of both these chronic conditions.
Jessner's Peels are a formulation of several skin improving acids, including lactic acid, salicylic acid and resorcinol. Jessner's Peels are used especially to lighten pigment and refine and tighten pores. The salicylic acid penetrates facial oil in a way that other chemical peels do not. This makes it an especially effective peel for those who have chronic acne and enlarged pores. Superficial Jessner Peels penetrate more deeply than superficial glycolic peels but not as deeply as TCA.
