Restylane & Perlane

Restylane and Perlane are hyaluronic acid dermal fillers used for instant correction of facial wrinkles, lip enhancement and facial anatomical volume correction.

Hyaluronic acid provides resilience and youthful contours to our skin. When we age, the natural levels of hyaluronic acid decrease. Along with exposure to sun, environmental stresses, diet and even facial expressions, this decrease in of our skin's "cushion" results in lines and wrinkles and folds.

Restylane and Perlane are used for wrinkles, lip augmentation, deep folds and facial volume. As the first hyaluronic acid wrinkle filler, Restylane has a well known and well deserved reputation as an instant dermal filler that does not require sensitivity testing. Restylane and Perlane are identical formulations with different gel particle sizes.

Restylane has a long record of success with many satisfied users opting for over 4,000,000 treatments. Perlane has been used outside the United States for years and has just recently received FDA approval. Perlane's ability to provide long lasting deep facial fold correction is well established.

Restylane and Perlane are the only products to boast Non-Animal, Stabilized, Hyaluronic Acid (NASHA). NASHA is the first stable, bio-degradable, non-animal hyaluronic acid available and is produced under carefully controlled conditions. Restylane and Perlane are both clear soft gels, which can be used individually or in combination with one another or other fillers such as Radiesse and the volumizer Sculptra. for superficial fine lines such as the vertical lips lines sometime referred to as smoker's lines, Cosmoderm or Cosmoplast may be layered in top of Restylane or other deep based fillers.

Which product is right for me?

For optimal results, combinations of both Restylane/Perlane and Botox® are often used. Dr. Sedgh will help you determine which products or product combinations will give you the look you want.

Injectable products are being used in place of implants and surgery. A small touch of additional volume can make a substantial difference in your appearance. An "injectable chin implant" instantly transform a "weak" chin into one that helps balance your facial contours and profile.

How long will it last?

How long a treatment holds its effect is very individual. This depends on many factors, such as your age, skin type, life style and muscle activity, as well as on the injection technique.

Restylane will typically last about 6 months and typically longer. When completely absorbed the gel disappears unnoticed from the body. After lip treatments, Dr. Sedgh recommends a follow up treatment after approximately 6 months. This should only be considered as a guideline as the length of time Restylane lasts can depend on many contributing factors.

Facts about Restylane and Perlane

Injection Comfort

For wrinkle treatments a topical anesthetic is used. When enhancing the lips, pain relief in the form of an injected lip nerve block - similar to pain blocks given by a dentist.

Tissue Compatibility

The ability of Restylane products to integrate with adjacent tissues allows the free passage of vital nutritive elements like oxygen and hormones to pass between fragments of the gel. The result is healthy, natural looking skin with no obstructive elements to compromise skin tissue.

Common Post-Injection Response

Some common injection-related reactions may occur, such as swelling, redness, pain, itching, bruising and tenderness at the implant site. These typically resolve spontaneously within one to two days after injection into the skin and within a week after injection into the lips.

Rare Reactions

Other types of reactions are very rare, but about 1 in 2000 treated patients have experienced localized reactions thought to be of a hypersensitivity nature. These have usually consisted of swelling at the implant site, sometimes affecting the surrounding tissues. Redness, tenderness and rarely acne-like formations have also been reported. These reactions have either started a few days after injection or after a delay of two to four weeks, and have generally been described as mild to moderate and self-limiting with an average duration of two weeks.
